Northampton Athletics Mourns the Loss of Former Athletic Director Bill Bearse

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Northampton Community College Athletics is saddened to announce the passing of friend, and former long time Director of Athletics, Mr. Bill Bearse.

A member of the NCC Athletic Hall of Fame, Bearse was named the second athletic director in school history in August of 1972, a position held until his retirement in December of 2007.

Bearse laid a foundation of excellence for 35 years at Northampton Community College.  During his tenure Bearse doubled the number of varsity sports, watched his teams bring home 28 Pennsylvania Collegiate Athletic Association (PCAA) state championships and 68 Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference (EPCC) titles.

"We lost a great friend and loyal supporter," commented current Northampton Director of Athletics Troy Tucker, "Bill's dedication and tireless work ethic laid the foundation for the NCC athletic program that you see today."

A former commissioner and president of both the PCAA and EPCC, Bearse was a driving force behind both organizations.  In addition to his administrative leadership, Bearse served as NCC's baseball, golf, cross country and bowling coach at various times during his tenure.

Named Outstanding Professional Educator in 1992, Bearse held the rank of Associate Professor and was named Professor Emeritus upon his retirement, during which he still continued to teach bowling classes at NCC.

In addition to his work in athletics, Bearse played an instrumental role in the development of the Physical Education and Sport Management curriculums, serving as the director of both, as well as teaching in both disciplines.

Bearse is survived by his wife Karen and sons Billy and Kevin.
